A RELAXING START TO YOUR HOLIDAY
Your cruising holiday starts at Better Boating in Reading. With free car parking and only a 3 minute taxi ride from Reading Train station, with direct links to London and Heathrow and Gatwick airports, our boarding point at Better Boating Reading makes for an easy start to your holiday.
A NARROWBOAT IS EASY TO DRIVE……
Your holiday then begins with 1 – 2 hours tuition by a qualified RYA instructor. A narrow boat is easy to drive and for those of you new to canal boating holidays, be rest assured you will be given full tuition in driving the boat and you will quickly soon have the confidence to go and explore the River Thames or the Kennet & Avon canal on your own. We are always close on hand, should you need us.
For those of you who would really prefer not to drive the boat at all and simply use it as a holiday base or combine it with our boat Geanna to accommodate large groups up to 17 persons, then we will meet you at the boat either in Henley or in Pangbourne, depending on where you choose to be.
A choice of routes
Re-live the same boat journey on the River Thames as Jerome K Jerome in his book ‘3 men In A Boat’ and cruise to Pangbourne.
Pangbourne is also the home of Kenneth Grahame, author of The Wind in the Willows. You will also pass Mapledurham House, dating from 1588 and thought to be the model for Toad Hall and was also used in the filming of ‘Where eagles Dare.’ Alternatively, how about a leisurely boat cruise from Sonning to Henley-On-Thames? Experience the bustling market town of Henley & the Royal Regatta or how about the Henley 80′s Rewind Festival? For longer cruises why not cruise downstream to Marlow and then Windsor. Alternatively, cruise along the Kennet & Avon canal* from Reading to Newbury and visit the numerous pubs along the way, while taking in the beautiful countryside (*please note you would need to purchase a short term licence for cruising on the canals as our licence covers the River Thames)

Notes on accommodation
Guests will be required to return the boat with a full tank of diesel. This can easily be done when the boat is returned to the marina and the staff there will assist guests with the fuelling (not self service).
Please note that we have a strict no drinking and driving policy when driving boats. This applies to the designated boat driver and one crew member and applies from handover to check out. We reserve the right not to hand the boat over to anyone who we have reason to believe is under the influence of alcohol on arrival.
Cruising on a narrowboat is an ideal holiday for anyone who would prefer to sit and watch the world go by, or simply navigate at a leisurely pace without the worry of having to walk too far. There are 3 short steps down in to the boat and 2 steps at the front to the bow deck.
There is a bow deck with a fixed seat and 2 folding chairs. The stern deck has room for 2 people to comfortably sit or stand while driving the boat. See more photos of Gina
